# Deployment Purpose and Notifications

These two settings describe the assignment itself: whether the user chooses to install, and what the user is told while it happens. They are read at the moment the assignment is created, so they matter only when an assignment is actually made — see Auto Assignment.

### Deployment Purpose

| Option | On the Mac | Can the user remove it? |
| ------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------- |
| **Available** | The application appears in **Company Portal** as installable. Nothing happens until the user presses Install. | Yes, from Company Portal. |
| **Required** | The application is installed automatically, without the user asking for it. | No. |

**Available** is the default.

{% hint style="info" %}
Required is the setting that makes an installation mandatory. If what you want is "install this on every Mac in the group without asking", this is the field to change — it is not something the Application / Update mode controls.
{% endhint %}

#### Per-application override

If a product has **Application Custom Settings** with its own deployment purpose, that value is used instead of the global one. A product with custom settings but no purpose of its own falls back to the global value.

### End User Notifications

Controls what the end user sees on the Mac while the assignment does its work.

| Option                                                  | Behaviour                                                                           |
| ------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Show all toast notifications** | The user is notified of installation activity and of restarts. This is the default. |
| **Show toast notifications for computer restarts only** | Installation happens quietly; only restart prompts are shown. |
| **Hide all toast notifications** | Nothing is shown to the user. |

#### Per-application override

As with the deployment purpose, a product's own **Application Custom Settings** value takes precedence. Products without one use the global setting.

{% hint style="info" %}
Existing installations that were configured before this setting existed behave as **Show all toast notifications**. The default was chosen so that upgrading Easy2Patch does not silently change what your users see.
{% endhint %}

### Which one do I want?

| You want                                    | Set                                                                       |
| ------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| The user decides when to install | Deployment Purpose = **Available** |
| Every Mac in the group gets it | Deployment Purpose = **Required** |
| Required, but without interrupting the user | Purpose = **Required**, Notifications = **Hide all** or **Restarts only** |
| A pilot group first | Assign only the pilot group under **Azure Groups**, then widen it |
